Amazon's Mechanical Turk.

Amazon's Mechanical Turk, my favorite way to earn some extra money online.  As i talked about in a previous post you complete simple tasks called HITs that are easy for humans but not for computers.  pay ranges anywhere from 1cent to several dollars and time required is 5 seconds to 10 or more minutes.  But if you read my previous post here you will know the basics of Turking.

Here i will show you how to make the most from Turking.

• Know who are the good requester's and how well they pay.  the easiest way is to is to see their ratngs, you can see these rating by installing the browser add-on turkopticon it shows ratings next to the requesters name.  

The highlighted area is added and when you hover your mouse over it, it shows the ratings of the submitter.

Here you see CrowdSource's rating. They are one of the better requester's as you can see.

when choosing a HIT always check their rating.  most importantly generosity.

1. Generosity is the most important as it is a good indication that others have found that they pay at around the 10 cents a minute rate.


2. Fairness is also important as it is the indication of how likely they are to reject work. On mTurk your reject rate is very important if it falls below 97 percent there are a few well paying HITs you cannot take if goes below 95 percent then you will not be able to do most well paying HITs and getting it back above will likely be very annoying.


3. Promptness this is an indication of how quickley the Requester will approve your work, some will as soon as you submit other will wait or set auto approve to 14 days.  Amazon by default auto approves all HITs after 30 days so it can take a while but you will be paid so if your in to this for the long term then Promptness really isnt as important.


4. Communicativity is the indication of how well or fast they will respond when contacted by a submitter so dont worry if this vaule is blank as most Turkers like yourself never need to contact a Submitter and they there for dont get rated on it as much.


5. Reviewers, like any review system scammers will review themselves so they look like they have good ratings so its always good to check how many people have review them especially if the HIT looks sketchy.

• Now to find the HITs to do. To dive right in go to the search bar type in Survey and set the pay at least to 0.20.

   Most of the resulting HITs will be reasonably paying and you will be able to do them without having to worry about weather you meet the qualification or they will be too time consuming.
